Malayalam cinema, and the role on each
Drama
Casting takes time, and the actors come in for workshops before the shoot, so the performance is already found by the time everyone reaches set. A marketeer or creative director arrives with a character in their head, and the job is to put that exact person on screen.
Children
A child gives you something real the moment they forget the camera is there. Getting them to that point is the job: a calm set, patience, and knowing how to talk to a young actor so they stay in the game and the performance stays theirs.
Food
Food on screen is almost always an act between two people. Somebody cooks it, somebody hands it over, somebody eats it in front of you, and the brand lives inside that exchange.

About
A decade of getting truthful performances out of people, on an advertising schedule.
Prakash Vaidyanathan came up through advertising the long way round. Post production assistant, then camera assistant, then in-house assistant director, then freelance first AD. Directing came after that, producing after that. He has done most of the jobs on a set before directing one.
He was based in Mumbai throughout, running advertising, Bollywood and Malayalam features in parallel, and moved to Kochi in 2024 to concentrate on Malayalam cinema. The work runs from broad character comedy to straight emotional drama, with a particular hold on children and food. He writes long form as well, features and series, and he acts.
